Artist's Play Room #39

Our first APR of 2013 is now complete and let me say, I sure am grateful to all of you who participated this week. When I realized a short week ago that it was once again time for The Artist's Play Room I must admit I was a little shell shocked. The month of December went so darn fast!! To me, it felt like a long week, not a month. I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed by the New Year rushing at me like a freight train. I want to embrace all that potential of a new year brings, I've made my resolutions and planned out 2013 so I have some idea where I want to go. I'd love to hear what you do to plan out your New Year.

As I said above, thank you so much to those of you who came back this week and participated. It's so hard to restart after a long holiday. Let me show you all your lovely art illuminating our "CELEBRATE" theme.
Bellalullo has created some
really fun and adorable
journal pages.
Hwee has drawn her celebratory
Santa plate and mug, I think they're
absolutely adorable. Is it ok if I'm
a little jealous?? Hehehe.
Gloria has created a spectacular
New Year's scene using pastels
and glitter, I think it's terrific!
Bluebell has done a set of poppies
for her friend as a present. I do
love poppies, they're on my list
to try this year. Thanks for the
inspiration!
Darla has done a simple yet
sweet wish for her friends. I do
love the John Wesley quote she put
with her art, go check it out.
Terrie decided to make an art
piece showing where she wants
her art journey this year to go.
Her word is FOCUS.
Mo has the BEST reason to
celebrate! She's a new gramma.
Meet Jack, the new love of Mo's
life. :o)
Hwee has also done a painting
in her sketchbook, she's decided to
concentrate on her sketchbook this
year. I second that emotion.
Stephanie is celebrating by showing
these great paintings depicting
people playing in the snow.
So fun.
Currie has used her art as a "fill"
for the letters in CELEBRATE, a
literal and creative take on our
theme.
Rita finds herself celebrating
every time she looks at this new
work. She loves how it turned out
and I totally agree, the color and
texture is stunning.
Here, I'm celebrating the
birthday of a good friend. I
worked on this rose in December.
Arnoldo celebrates his
belief in God with this
religious drawing done
for his brother.
Neesie has drawn the cutest nest
of chickadees, she's spending her
christmas in the snow of Montreal.
Now I see why thy look cold!

Since I've spent the last few days thinking about New Year's Resolutions, I thought that would be a great theme to explore this week. Now, as you must all know by now, I hate to hem any artist in so feel free to run wild with the theme. In fact, that applies to any theme that's put up.

I guess I officially have something to say... I really, really DON'T want anyone to feel like they "don't do that kind of thing" when it comes to any theme. An artist thinking "that's not my kind of theme, I can't make my art fit" would really make me unhappy. I encourage you to be bold with your thinking, use your imagination. The line of thinking doesn't have to make sense to me, how you got from my theme to your art, it has to work for YOU. For instance, this week's theme is "RESOLUTIONS". Maybe all your resolutions are private or you don't do resolutions. All you have to do is think about what the theme makes you think about and feel and go with that. Do you think about a colour or an object when you think about the theme?? Follow your creativity, all I ask is you give me some idea of where you're going with your art so I can comment effectively. Sound good?? :o)

Ok, now that I got that off my chest, I feel muuuch better. I think RESOLUTIONS will be a fun theme, I have many ideas running around my brain already. Here are a few ideas to help you along...

  2. I do not know that this is a resolution as much as a desire for balance in all things in life that tend to swing from one extreme to the other... and community happens to be an integral part of the journey. I confess that this is an old painting- I have not managed to pull out the paint yet this year, but wanted to drop by and say Happy New Year anyway:-)

  4. I haven't got resolutions for this year, but I think this journal page could be one. This is going to be a year of beginnings.
    Happy 2013!!

  5. Although I don't do resolutions a little nudge to accomplish something never hurts.

  6. So many wonderful entries already! I wasn't sure what I was going to do for this and actually thought I would miss it, but then it just hit me! Use my Tag for this week because it shows exactly what I want to achieve this coming year.
Happy New Year everyone! May it be full of prosperity for you all :0) Mo

  7. Hi Jenn, just in under the wire again! I accidentally posted twice. The first one has no comment space, the second does. So if you would like to erase or hide the first one, that would be fine. Or maybe it will just correct my first submission. It is good to be back! Thank you for hosting, have a good week.
