To Sail Beyond The Sunset (APR +AEDM - Day Nine)

That's actually one of my favorite books, "To Sail Beyond A Sunset". It's written by my favorite author, Robert A. Heinlein who's one of the fathers of Science Fiction. Until I looked up an appropriate quote for sunsets I had forgotten that that's where the title came from, the Tennyson poem, Ulysses. Here's a quote from the poem...
"Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
the sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
to sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
of all the western stars, until I die.
~Alfred Lord Tennyson

It is so very true that sunsets inspire us to dream. They remind us that we are small compared to the splendor of our planet. Every sunset is different and each can fill us with awe. I decided to do a really simple painting this time, just capture the beauty of the bright colors in the sky at dusk. I think this would make a great series of little paintings, maybe notecards or ATC's. I just might do a series of these.

One last thing that I wanted to mention. It's about No-Reply bloggers. I wanted to officially announce that if you comment on my blog and you're a no-reply blogger, I just cannot take the time to find a way to comment back. Please know this makes me feel guilty and I'd really love to comment back. In fact I comment back to all of the people who comment to me (if there's an email connected to the comment) so if you've left me a comment and I didn't reply then you can assume YOU are a No-Reply blogger. The only time I don't reply other than with no-reply bloggers is if I've already commented on your actual blog that day. :o) If you'd like to learn how to NOT be a No-Reply Blogger, click here and read all about it in my series Blogging 101 (Part 7).

Best,

  1. Hi Jenn, I really like the simplicity and the strength of your sunset painting. What a great idea to make a series of simple line drawings/paintings on ATC cards. I was looking through your "Blogging 101" and I can't find how to put in those little pictures of previous blogs that are captioned "you might also be interested in"

  8. Love your sunset!
    I'm not a no-reply blogger, am I?
Sorry I cheated on APR this week with sunrises. Hope I am forgiven. :)

  9. This is a great entry for AEDM and for your sunset challenge. I commented to Debbie that sunrises and sunsets look very similar when you are doing a color swap.

Thanks for stopping by my place. I've never even heard of Silks, so they are something I'll have to look for. At least once I get rid of all this stash I already have (grin).

I'm a no-reply blogger because I can't access my hacked e-mail. It's a moot point to put out my e-mail account when it was hacked to the point where I can't use it. I tell people if they want to contact me, do it through my blog. I check it several times a day most days, so I know if someone has asked a question. It takes very little time to right click on the commenter's name, find their blog, left click, and find yourself on their home page. That's how I got here this evening!!

  10. Ah Jenn, I just read the description of the Silks on your sidebar. Since LuminArte makes so many of those mica based products, I think I probably have something close I could try one of these days. Thanks for the inspiration and advice.

  11. Beautiful sunset, Jenn! It makes me think of a stained glass window.

Re. no-reply blogger - I think that, since I linked my Google+ profile to my Blogger profile, it now shows the no-reply on my comments too?? I must remember to start including my email addy at the end of my comment. Thanks for the reminder.

Have a lovely weekend....it's a wet one here but we need the rain so I'm not complaining. :)

Such a simple but stunning design!
I think a series is a great idea and will look forward to seeing them.
