This first picture is of the sofa mom picked out to replace our totally worn out and broken one. It did take a loooooong time to arrive, we actually waited an extra 6-8 weeks for it! WHEW! It is subtle tones of cream, toffee and turquoise. We decided to pick out the lightest turquoise from the sofa and do the walls in that color.
The trunk in front of the sofa is my grand mother's cedar trunk that we refinished, doing the top in mahogany and painting out the bottom in a slightly darker turquoise. The table beside the sofa is done in the toffee (which also matches the new shag rug underneath) and the top of the table is also refinished in mahogany stain.
Our dining room table and chairs (which you can see just out of the left hand side) is also painted in the toffee color with the top of the table refinished to match the mahogany top of the coffee and side table. Oh, and yes, we made the wreath hanging above the sofa. Go big or go home is our motto when it comes to Christmas. I made the arrangement in the antique sleigh sitting on top of the trunk, if you were wondering.
We re-covered the mahogany bench using extra fabric we ordered to match the sofa and we also tied back the drapes with another fabric in the sofa. When I find time I'll be sewing some chair covers to match the bench fabric. That project will be in the new year.
Mom made the santa who stands on the mantle and I painted the yellow rose behind him. I still owe her another rose bud to finish the tryptic paintings of "A Study of a Yellow Rose". But, for now Christmas stuff fills that space.
The last picture is of my tree. I love how the transfer worked out. It takes up the entire blank wall that you see in front of you when you walk into my bedroom. The tree starts about half a foot off the ground and is 5-6 feet high and 6-7 feet wide. The leaves "blow" across the room, onto the opposite wall where I paint. This image transfer was the best idea ever. It fills the space with such a whimsical feeling, everyone who sees it thinks it's terrific and I find it really helps me be creative.Anyway, I hope you enjoyed seeing a little around my house.
