Artist's Play Room #44

So last week our theme was "What's In Your Pantry?", I'll admit that I chose the theme specifically because I wanted to try my hand at painting some cans. Holy Cow they're difficult to do, all that small detail. Don't get me wrong, they sure were fun and satisfying to do but I'll say that I won't be doing cans that much in the future. I get the feeling that some of out usual participants decided to skip last week because of the theme, lol. Not a problem, hopefully I can entice you all back with this week's theme (scroll down to the new linky and read all about it!) Next week is Valentine's Day. I love Valentine's day. To me, it doesn't matter that I don't have a boyfriend or husband, I think this celebratory day is all about the love we have for others. I know that so many people hate it because it's so commercial and others hate that there is one day legislated for love. Me? I like just feeling the love. I don't care how commercial any holiday gets, it's a celebration, people. It's so much more fun to just let all the complaints go and get into the holiday. SO, let's make this week's theme LOVE, CHOCOLATE, ROSES and VALENTINES!!

You can do a combo of all of those, use the colours associated with the day, or even be literal and do one of the words verbatim. Get creative, let the love show and have some fun. If it's hard for you, just think of this holiday as CHOCOLATE day, hehehe. Yumm.

What's In Your Pantry?

Hiya. Yep, a little late in getting this done. *sigh*. Why is it that when you're bored you can't store up the extra time for the next time you run out? That would be SOO cool. I wonder what you'd store time in?? Hmmm.

I've been test driving my new Stillman & Birn Sketchbook. Dion generously sent me the Gamma series sketchbook for me to test out and do a review for S&B. So far I'm thrilled. I'll be doing a review in the next week and tell you all about the paper etc. I want to do a few more paintings and use some other media before I roll out my review. But, I do want to thank Dion for sending the sketchbook to me, it was such a nice thing to do. Thank you Dion!

I must say, painting up cans is HARD!! The labels have so many details. It was fun though and I'm kinda thrilled with how it turned out.

Anyway, that's it for today. I'll obviously be back in a few hours with the new Artist's Play Room but I'll give you a hint on the subject so you can start thinking about what you might want to do... What special day is coming up next week?? Think CHOCOLATE HEARTS, lol. ;o)

Artist's Play Room #43

So, last week our theme was MAIL ART. I picked this theme to support FEATURING's call for mail art. The magazine is doing an article for issue 4 about this subject and I am hoping that some of you send in your mail art, you never know, it just might get picked for inclusion! Although I don't do much mail art, I do love the idea behind it. The mutual sharing of creativity through the mail is so seductive an idea. So I was thinking that there must be so many, many interesting things to paint, draw or collage in your pantry, I mean, you could even take the labels off a bunch of cans and use them in your art!! Quick Post: Mail Art Round-Up

Over the years I've made a bunch of mail art, some were sent in fun trades, others probably ended up in the bottom of a drawer. Since I didn't get time to make mail art, (oh the horror!!), I thought I would do a mail art round-up and show you what I have done in the past. Sound good?
